Is Lil Wayne’s Remix Of Drake’s ‘Back To Back’ Our First Taste Of No Ceilings 2?
Is the return of Mixtape Weezy upon us?
We can only hope. After all, there’s no time in his career when Lil Wayne has been as revered or untouchable as the height of his mixtape run a few years back: Dismantling the day’s most popular beats, to the point that their originals became almost obsolete; delivering the kind of witty, non-sequitur similes and punchlines that make you laugh and press repeat.
Near the top of his Mixtape Weezy catalog is 2009’s No Ceilings , which he’ll be following up with a sequel this Thanksgiving . And now, we have what appears to be our first taste of what’s sure to be a remix-heavy tape.
Over the weekend, Wayne performed his unreleased version of Drake’s “Back to Back,” and while we can’t know for sure that it’ll land on No Ceilings 2 , it seems like a safe bet, and not just because he says “the Benz don’t got no ceilings” in one of his bars — though he does do that. Beyond that, he’s up to his old ways, with punchlines about women, wealth and weed (“They say, ’Pass the blunt’/ I’m gon’ need time to study”).
About halfway through, the beat drops out, and Tunechi takes it home a cappella, then he finishes up with a literal mic drop and walk off stage at the end.
Let’s hope there are plenty more mic drop-worthy moments on No Ceilings 2 .
