Boko Haram Army begins large operation in Sambisa forest

Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole said this while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri. ``I want to inform you that troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole are conducting operations in the heart of Sambisa as we speak. ``The troops are deep into the forest to smoke out Boko Haram terrorists,'' Irabor said. He said that the troops were led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri Brig.-Gen. al Shabaab Somali military says Islamist group kills 15 soldiers

The Islamist group, which wants to topple Somalia's Western-backed government, said it had killed 32 soldiers in the assault. It was not possible to verify independently the death toll. Al Shabaab has inflated casualty figures in the past. Captain Nur Ali said the attack had taken place early on Sunday morning in the town of Runirgood, about 180 km to the north east of Mogadishu. "Al Shabaab used a suicide car bomb to penetrate a military base. It exploded and then fierce fighting followed. At least 15 soldiers died," Major Abdullahi Omar , a second army officer, told Reuters from the region by phone. "The soldiers (at the base) were few and there were no AMISOM or other military nearby for reinforcement. We killed more than 10 militants in fighting on Saturday and Sunday," Omar added. The demise of the monarch was confirmed on Friday with the breaking of a native chalk by Chief igbe , the Iyase of Benin Kingdom. Punch reports that there was a marked increase in the number of people patronizing barbers' shops, asking for complete shaves. A barber, who gave his name as Akhere, said that he recorded a 50 per cent increase in the number of customers at his shop. Akhere said, “Not many people came to have their heads shaved on Friday, when the palace made the announcement. But Saturday was different because a lot people came to do so; many of them were elderly men.” A resident, Mr. John Ehanire , described the act as a ‘privilege’ for all Benin sons. “I shaved my head to show respect for my late king. It is a rare privilege for us because it happens once in a long time,” he said. The drugs, smuggled from China via courier service, was meant for distribution to the local addict population. Following a police raid at a house in Bukit Mahkota Cheras, the parcels of drugs were found hidden in a portable air-conditioning to prevent detection by the authorities. "We have arrested the 27-year-old man and seized 21 packets of drugs believed to be syabu," A police spokesperson told reporters at a press conference on Thursday. "The drugs, weighing about 20.8kg, were stashed in a hidden compartment in the machines. Initial investigations revealed the suspect had brought the drug into the country from China, using a courier service company," "The suspect had just started trafficking in drugs in Malaysia about nine months ago and we are still tracking down the remaining members of the syndicate.
