Iman And Assistant Fatally shot in New York City

  An Imam was shot together with his assistant when they were leaving afternoon prayers yesterday in New York City. Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddin, 64, were shot in the head by a man who approached them from behind in Queens shortly before2pmon Saturday, August 13, police said.Akonjee, a father-of-seven, and Uddin wereboth pronounced dead later on. The imam had moved to New York from Bangladesh two years ago and was close friends with Mr Uddin. Police said there was nothing at this stage to indicate that the men were shot because they were MuslimDeputy Inspector Henry Sautner of the New York Police Department said video surveillance showed the victims were approached from behind by a man in a dark polo shirt and shorts who shot them, then fled with the gun still in his hand.Members of the Bangladeshi Muslim community served by the mosque said they wanted the shootings to be treated asa hate crime.       The National chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) John    Odigie Oyegun said yesterday that during the election campaigns in 2015, their party knew that things in Nigeria were bad but never knew it was like this . He stated  this while speaking at a surprise birthday party held for him by staff of the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday August 12th. “It has been tough times for the nation. When we were campaigning and it is necessary to continue to hammer on this part, we were not in government.We knew things were very bad, but we did not know they were as bad as we eventually found them and the revelations that come out everyday continue to buttress that fact. Nobody ever expected the price of crude to collapse in the way it has done and one can only repeat what Mr. President said a few days ago.That is for being a nation that had an excess crude account, today because of the collapse of the price of crude, a lot of states of this country do not have e
