Buhari President might sack Police IG Arase, others

According to reports, President
Muhammadu Buhari might be planning to sack the Inspector General of Police (IGP),
Solomon Arase following a review of the last-minute appointments of former president, Goodluck Jonathan .
Others who might be affected by the move are the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Peter Obi and the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), Abdullahi Mukhtar Mohammed , Daily Trust reports.
Buhari is said to have ordered a compilation of all persons appointed by Jonathan between April 1 and May 28, 2015.
The order was reportedly conveyed via a circular sent by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
Babachir Lawal asking all permanent secretaries to submit a list of said appointments.
The SGF is said to have noted in the circular that some of the appointments were not guided by the various laws establishing them, and were not based on merit.
“It is in view of the foregoing that, Mr. President directed that all appointments made into executive and non-executive positions (including renewal of tenure) in all Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions between the period 1st April, 2015 to 28th May, 2015 should be reviewed,” the circular reportedly read.
