Riot in Kenya as police shoot two women

Two women were shot dead by police at Daraja Mbili market in Kisii Town, Kisii County after the officers stopped to disperse motorcycle riders locally known as boda boda. According to an eye witness, a fight broke out after the police tried to disperse the motorcycle riders who had blocked the Kisii-Kisumu highway.27yr old Edna Osoro who was selling tomatoes by the side of the road and another woman were shot dead in the process leading to chaotic scenes as missile-wielding protesters engaged the officers.Ms Osoro's father, John Osoro, was inconsolable as he wept over the death of his daughter."I have just seen the worst day of my life. How could my daughter die in such an unnecessary manner?" No Portable Water for 57m Nigerians

    Oxfam Head of Programme in Nigeria, Constant Tchona, yesterday, disclosed that over 57 million Nigerians lacked access to safe or clean water.Tchona, who spoke at the commissioning of Tyowanye Motorised Water Scheme, implemented by Oxfam in Nigeria with support from Guinness Nigeria, in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, said access to safe water and sanitation was a major challenge inthe country.     He said over 10,500 persons within and outside the community would benefit from the project, which would be run by a local management team.In his speech, Managing Director ofGuinness Nigeria, Peter Ndegwa, said his company had since 2007 embarked on a Water for Life Programme, which had helped provide over 10 million people in 18countries across Africa with potable water. USAID, CSOs study indicts development agencies of failure in Niger-Delta

WARRI—A study by two civil society groups has accused Niger Delta Institutions, NDIs, of delivering too little to improve lives in the region against overwhelmingfunds made available to these agencies.The study sponsored by the United State Agency for International Development, USAID, and Partnership Initiatives for the Niger Delta, PIND, was carried out by Delta State based Lite-Africa and Edo rooted African Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ.                               Niger-Delta Titled Citizen Report Card on Niger Delta Institutions, NDIs, the study in 2015 covered eight local government areas across Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo and Ondo.
