Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez ran riot against Roma, helping Barcelona to a stunning 6-1 Champions League victory that assures them of first place in Group E with a game to spare. Adebayo Olaniyi , a farmer, was on Tuesday sentenced to a total of 3 years and 3 months imprisonment by an Odo-Owa Area Court, Kwara State on two counts of assault. The Judge, Mr. Abolade Banigbe, in his ruling, sentenced the 35-year-old to three months imprisonment with an option of N 1,000 fine on the first count and three years imprisonment on the second count with an option of N 13,000 fine, Tribune reports. Olaniyi was accused of for bitting off Bode Arilewo’s lower lip during an altercation and had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on his first arraignment on September 18, 2015. He was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum. The judge said the sentence was to serve as a deterrent to others.

In Lagos Speaker asks Canadian envoy to reduce visa processing time,

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, on Tuesday urged the Canadian embassy to reduce visa processing time for Nigerians. Obasa made the plea while receiving the Deputy High Commissioner of Canada in Nigeria, Mr Lajos Arendas, who visited him in his office in Lagos. He said that the assembly had passed progressive laws for the state, and called for support from the Canadian government. "Canada and Nigeria have come a long way; Canada stood by Nigeria during the years of the late Gen. Sanni Abacha, who was a maximum ruler of the country. Mr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, on Tuesday said Nigeria will understudy the job creation scheme of the People’s Republic of China to solve unemployment. Onu said this at a meeting with China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Gu Xiaojie. The minister said Nigeria was interested in achievements of China regarding the many innovations driving its economy.
