Buhari should save APC from factionalisation —Sen. Adebayo

Senator Salman Adebayo, a medical doctor, was the Deputy Senate Minority Leader of the ANPP during the 4th Senate. In a chat with Vanguard in Ilorin, he spoke on the crisis between the leaderships of the Senate and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC while also canvassing support for President Muhammadu Buhari on his anti-corruption war. By Demola Akinyemi AS a former minority leader of the Senate, how do you see the Senate Standing Rule that produced Senator Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate against the wish of a section of his party? During our time, we were regarded as the guinea pig Senate (1999-2003). We were the ones that fashioned out most of these Senate standing rules. There was no minority then because we had about three parties. I was the Deputy Minority Leader of the ANPP. I was in the 6-man committee that was first set up by the senate that fashioned out the rules we are using today. We had the template of the 1989 Senate at that time. The rules of the Sena

The 8 candidates currently running for fifa presidency

With Monday’s deadline reached, AFP Sport profiles the eight officially declared candidates for the FIFA presidency: PRINCE ALI BIN AL HUSSEIN The 39-year-old brother of Jordan’s King Abdullah was a member of his country’s special forces, specialising in parachute jumps. The prince was on the FIFA executive from 2011 until this year when he first challenged Sepp Blatter for the presidency. Prince Ali championed the cause of allowing women to play football in a hijab. ICC urges India to arrest Sudan’s al-Bashir

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has urged India to arrest and hand over Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, who is wanted on genocide charges and expected to participate in the ongoing Africa-India Summit. Bashir is accused of masterminding war crimes in his campaign to crush a revolt in Sudan’s western Darfur region, a move that led the ICC to issue warrants for his arrest in 2009 and 2010. Along with at least 40 other African leaders, the 71-year-old president is expected to arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday to attend the Summit aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two regions. ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda told newsmen that even though India is not an ICC signatory, it should act as a UN Security Council resolution had lifted Bashir’s immunity under international law and urged all states to fully cooperate with the ICC. “As states ponder over such matters, it is fundamentally important not to forget the victims who deserve justice for the unimaginable atrocities

The Ile-Ife and Yoruba of My Dream by Ogunwusi Ooni-elect

Image
By Ooni-elect Adeyeye Ogunwusi I have a story to tell the world and most importantly the people of Ile-Ife. About forty years ago, I was born into the Giesi Ruling House, Ojaja Royal Compound in the ancient city of Ile-Ife. From birth, my life has been a journey; one that I embarked on saddled with great conscientiousness when I became a responsible father at the age of 19, which shaped and groomed me for greater challenges ahead. To cater for my family as a young father, I became very enterprising with the knack of building something out of nothing. This certainly increased my temperament for being successful in all my endeavours, as well as towing the right path as a responsible father. Thus, in the following years, I was able to build a consortia of companies with a team of well-versed, highly skilled and unskilled professionals from scratch
