University of Jos Library razed down by Fire,destroys Examination Scripts and crucial Materials
University of Jos permanent site Library was destroyed in a fire incident which occurred on Saturday night. It is not clear what caused fire. Following the incident, the university authorities has postponed ongoing first semester examinations. The Buildings of faculty of social Science and Maagement science located at the library were also razed down.
In a statement issued in Jos on Sunday, Mr Monday Danjem the Registrar of the university,said that the decision was taken waiting on an emergency Senate meeting scheduled for Monday, Oct. 10. He has urged students and members of the university community to stay calm and go about their normal businesses as the situation is under control.The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sebastine Maimako, who briefed newsmen and journalists after inspecting the damaged buildings disclosed that the fire destroyed examination scripts, books and crucial materials. "On the fourth floor, which was completely razed down, we have the departments of Psychology, Political Science, Economics and Office of Dean of Management sciences"The Director of Fire Service in Plateau, Mr Samuel Musa, said that it took six hours to put out the fire.
