Movie Review "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" is a flashy but hollow movie
The movie kicks off with the battle between Superman and Zod that leveled the city of Metropolis, with Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) on the scene, watching his headquarters destroyed during the battle, along with human lives.
Bruce Wayne hates Superman, and his hatred can be justified - Superman's actions just killed countless men, women and children, so, Bruce considers him a threat he must expose and destroy.
On the other hand, Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) works at the Daily Planet with his girlfriend, Lois Lane (Amy Adams) , and is bent on exposing Batman's vigilante actions.
In the movie, Batman and Superman square off against each other in a supposed epic superhero showdown, which will change both their lives forever.
As much as the action comic movie held some of the finest fight scenes either of the two superheros have been in, it left a lot to be desired with its overly twisted and vague plot.
I loved Christopher Nolan's portrayal of the dark Knight who struck fear into the heart of criminals, without using firearms. Affleck on the other hand offered us a new Batman - an older Batman, who brands his victims, and is not afraid to use firearms, or even kill the bad guys. An action that changes our perception of the Dark Knight.
Superman returned as the same brooding individual you probably loved or hated in "Man of Steel." The character didn't have any transformation or inner journey over the course of a story. The superhero got to save no one but his girlfriend Lois.
Yes, we get to see him going into action, but we only get to see the outcome. "Batman vs Superman" depicted a weak Superman, who didn't have much to offer. There's a scene where he saves a little girl from a fire outbreak, we only get to see him flying out with the girl. His heroic actions weren't paid attention to. His character was flat and boring.
Let's talk about Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. I can't be the only one who failed to understand his reasons for desperately wanting to kill Superman. Secondly, I expected an intimidating Lex Luthor
with a little bit of class, and Eisenberg fails at being that character I expected to see.
One exciting thing that cannot be ignored is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman . She owns the role as the mysterious Diana Prince, and as the tough Wonder Woman. She made the scene where Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman fight Doomsday an interesting watch.
Can we talk about the ending without giving much away? They do something heartbreaking with Superman's character. Something that should and does elicit shock from the audience - an ending that leaves one cold, angry and disappointing.
Given the excellent work of Marvel with
"Deadpool," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and " Captain America: Civil War," "Batman vs Superman" is quite an unforgivable flop.
At the end of the movie, hardcore comic book fans could discover that, while it’s exciting to see the superheroes on a big screen together, the movie doesn’t dig deep enough to stand out as the best superhero movie of the year, or years to come.
Snyder delivered a flashy but hollow film, and once again, Marvel is still winning. Marvel pulls a stronger punch with their movies than the generic DC pattern, which was worsened by Snyder's failed sense of direction.
From Batman going on a killing spree, and the concept of a weak Superman, it would take more than just one "Justice League" movie to revive the awe he has gathered over the generations, and repair this damage.
In the upcoming "Justice League," Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) will unite to battle evil
