Lecturer arrested for raping student in federal polytechnic

Management at the the Federal Polytechnic, Bida » , has suspended a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration for allegedly raping an ND1 student in the department. According to reports, the alleged rapist was caught in the act. The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident, added that the lecturer will be detained in a police custody pending the completion of investigation Elkana also added that the victim had been receiving treatment at the school medical centre. The lecturer, meanwhile will be paid a half of his salary as the investigations go on. “ It is true that there have been an allegation of rape against one of our lecturers. The case has been referred to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for investigation and recommendation. “The alleged crime is also being investigated by the police. The official has been suspended and will also receive half salary pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation, Reports also gathered that there has been a series of sexual harassment » complaints against the lecturer by female students before being caught raping on of them.

Four Feared Dead in Ivory Coast Crash.

A cargo plane has crashed into the sea off Ivory Coast, close to Abidjan airport, killing four people and injuring six. The wreckage of the turboprop plane, which was carrying ten people, was swept toward a beach where rescuers treated surviving crewmen on the sand. All four of the dead are Moldovan while four French nationals and two Moldovans were injured. Local police told AFP the aircraft had been trying to land when it crashed. According to local news site Ivoire Matin one person was taken into custody after the crash. It is unclear if they are a member of the crew. Reuters news agency reports that the plane crashed during a storm with heavy rain and lightning. The plane was a Ukrainian-made Antonov chartered by the French army as part of its anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane, a French military source told AFP
