What We Wish We Had Known On A-Level Results Day
It's easy for us to say that it will all be OK, that results don't matter and the As,Bs,Cs will all fade away as career ideas turn into employment realities. The truth is that on results day, this isn't particularly true. The letters marked on the page will impact your near future, whether it be positively or negatively. Like most, you will have discovered whether you got into University before even leaving your bedroom - isn't the 21st Century fancy? - and started shaping up your new-term plans before you've stepped onto school premises.
10 Things To Wear Now School Is Out
MISS VOGUE FASHION24 Jul 2017
We've been there and done it all before you. Some of us went through clearing, others needn't have fretted through a sleepless night, while those who knew they hadn't worked hard enough picked up results that reflected just that.
What you hear less of is that results day marks a shift across all matters of life. It's more than just letters on a page, it's a ticket to the future and the first step of post-school life. Here, the Miss Vogue team share what they wish they had known on the day that they picked up their results... Sorry if this sounds bleak, but here's where responsibility starts. For those going to University, you might have a few more years until you enter the real real world, but it's here on in there will be bills need to be paid, deadlines met and where a sense of financial independence starts.
Friendships Are Going To Change
You might have sworn to your gal pals that forever a girl gang you will be, but as you all set off on your unique paths some ties will naturally become weaker. Don't fight this. Let your friends spread their wings and celebrate their destinies, but don't spend too much time putting all the effort in when there is no return. By the time you're in your twenties you'll find that your paths will cross a little more.
A-Level Results Only Matter Today
Sorry, teachers, but that is the plain truth. Today your marks will be your ticket to the next step in your own journey, but once you've got there it's rare that you'll ever be asked to reveal them again. Asking those with the recruiting power at Vogue HQ, they admitted that it is best to leave them off CVs, instead prioritise on outside interests and work experience.
Be Proactive
If you've found yourself needing to go through clearing, get on it now. It's not worth sitting and moping. The process of acquiring a place will usually take around four days and while it can be done all the way up until October, it pays off to get it sorted asap, then the summer really is yours for the taking.
