Jonny Depp talks about assassinating Donald Trump

Johnny Depp has joined the ranks of celebrities who have suggested killing the president. The actor appeared at the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival on Thursday to introduce a screening of his 2004 film The Libertine . While on stage, he mentioned Trump—and then brought up the idea of assassinating him, knowing, he admitted, it would court controversy.
"This is going to be in the press, and it will be horrible," he said. "When was the last time an actor assassinated a President?"
The answer is Actor John Wilkes Booth, an actor who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.
Depp then noted that he's not an actor. "I lie for a living," he said.
A Secret Service official told CNN it is aware of Depp's remarks on Thursday. The 54-year-old actor played Trump last year in a Funny or Die video parody of the businessman's 1987 book
The Art of the Deal .
Depp's remarks—which became worldwide trending topics on both Twitter and Facebook on Friday morning—come just weeks after TV personality Kathy Griffin appeared in a video and photo holding what
appeared to be the decapitated head of President Trump . The baffling move was widely condemned on both the right and left, and CNN, where she hosted a New Year's Eve special, cut ties with her. In January, Madonna drew criticism when she appeared at the Women's March in Washington, D.C., where she said she'd thought about blowing up the Trump White House. She later sought to clarify her remarks by saying it was a metaphor
