Wole Soyinka Fulfills His Promise to tear his American Green Card

Nigerian Nobel prize-winning author Wole Soyinka who promised to destroy his Green card and and leave the US if Donald Trump won the US presidential elections said Thursday that he has fulfilled his pledge.The 82-year-old playwright novelist told AFP on the sidelines of an education conference at the University of Johannesburg..“I have already done it, I have disengaged (from the United States). I have done what I said I would do.”“I had a horror of what is to come with Trump… I threw away the (green) card, and I have relocated, and I’m back to where I have always been”.(meaning his homeland Nigeria).However, he said he would not discourage anyone from applying for a US Green card. He added:“It’s useful in many ways. I wouldn’t for one single moment discourage any Nigerians or anybody from acquiring a green card… but I have had enough of it”.

Four Feared Dead in Ivory Coast Crash.

A cargo plane has crashed into the sea off Ivory Coast, close to Abidjan airport, killing four people and injuring six. The wreckage of the turboprop plane, which was carrying ten people, was swept toward a beach where rescuers treated surviving crewmen on the sand. All four of the dead are Moldovan while four French nationals and two Moldovans were injured. Local police told AFP the aircraft had been trying to land when it crashed. According to local news site Ivoire Matin one person was taken into custody after the crash. It is unclear if they are a member of the crew. Reuters news agency reports that the plane crashed during a storm with heavy rain and lightning. The plane was a Ukrainian-made Antonov chartered by the French army as part of its anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane, a French military source told AFP
