Hong Kong beauty salon raided over 'bogus' medical treatments

Hong Kong police say they have raided a beauty salon and arrested 11 women, after customers accused it of offering fraudulent medical treatments. Police said seven people spent HK$5m ($645,000; £444,000) on treatments reportedly involving oxygen inhalation and infrared light therapies. The patients had to sign undertakings with the salon not to receive any other medical treatment, police added. Local media report they had conditions including cancer and depression. Police told the South China Morning Post that they were investigating whether the beauty salon was involved in the illegal practise of medicine. Thursday's raid comes just days after a massive public outcry after the death from cancer of a Chinese student who sought an experimental treatment at a hospital, after it came top of his search listing on internet search giant Baidu's site. The company says it vets health advertising carefully. Public health concern is a major issue in mainland China , with authorities very sensitive to popular anger at perceived failings.

Four Feared Dead in Ivory Coast Crash.

A cargo plane has crashed into the sea off Ivory Coast, close to Abidjan airport, killing four people and injuring six. The wreckage of the turboprop plane, which was carrying ten people, was swept toward a beach where rescuers treated surviving crewmen on the sand. All four of the dead are Moldovan while four French nationals and two Moldovans were injured. Local police told AFP the aircraft had been trying to land when it crashed. According to local news site Ivoire Matin one person was taken into custody after the crash. It is unclear if they are a member of the crew. Reuters news agency reports that the plane crashed during a storm with heavy rain and lightning. The plane was a Ukrainian-made Antonov chartered by the French army as part of its anti-jihadist Operation Barkhane, a French military source told AFP
